The following was originally posted by my father to his social media. It was so good, I asked his permission to share with all of you today. Enjoy!
"Just some thoughts this morning. Take it for what it’s worth. I know we are not all in the same boat, but we are all in the same water, in the same storm. The wind may be a little stronger where you are at. The waves may be bigger. I don’t know your circumstances as well as I know my own. I woke up this morning knowing that I didn’t ‘need’ anything. I have food and drink in the fridge and cupboards. I still can go to work and get a paycheck. We can pay our bills. Would I like to visit my kids and grandkids? Of course. Would I like to watch a baseball game? Yes. Are there any number of other things that we miss? Absolutely. During this time of isolation/quarantine/social distancing/whatever term you want to use, I’m focusing on the positives. Spending time with Deb [his wife, my mom] and working on our relationship. Walking more and even starting to run a little bit. Cooking and trying different recipes. Discovering new back roads. Enjoying the drum beat or a guitar solo in a song. Sitting on the back porch enjoying a cold one. Reflecting on the blessings, not the curses. Yes, I have my moments. Just ask my wife and co-workers. There is loss, pain, uncertainty, sadness, anger, etc. I totally understand that. And some days I/we/you might need to acknowledge that we are in a bad mood/dark place/in pain. I’m just choosing to look beyond that. To remember that the good can outweigh the bad. That maybe we can learn a little about ourselves and others. Maybe we can come out of this a little better/wiser/more compassionate. Thanks and God bless."
